Rawalpindi: The government of Punjab has released funds of 8 billion rupees for the revised plan of the Koral Chowk- Motorway Chowk signal-free corridor. The signal-free corridor project of 22 Km long in Rawalpindi will reduce travel time from the motorway and Islamabad International Airport (IIA).

Before this, RDA planned to build a signal-free corridor from Motorway Chowk to Koral Chowk via Peshawar Road, but the plan has been revised. Now the starting point of the signal-free corridor will be Ammar Chowk.

The funds of 8 billion rupees will be released after the feasibility study’s completion. According to the details, the feasibility study will start in July as the Rawalpindi development authority has already completed the area survey and wrapped up the starting plan.

It is pertinent to note here that with the construction of the signal-free corridor, the travel time will be reduced to 20 minutes, over one hour up till now. Furthermore, per the initial plan, the underpass will be constructed on Mall Road in front of GHQ Chowk, Military Hospital Chowk, General Post Office Chowk, and Pearl Continental Hotel.
