SHC ordered the administration to immediately demolish the under-construction gate at the city’s historic Frere Hall

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the city administration of Karachi to immediately demolish the under-construction gate at the city’s historic Frere Hall entry and other newly-developed concrete structures within the premises.

The court observed that nothing could be constructed near or around the historic site as per the law. Reportedly, the declaration came in reaction to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) raised by Marvi Mazhar, a social activist, via her lawyer. The petitioner claimed that historic sites are lawfully protected against any modifications in their dimensions.

According to the petitioner, Frere Hall is one of the city’s most senior structures and should be protected against any development on its grounds. In reaction to the petition, the court instructed that the structure be demolished ASAP.
