Sukhi Kinari Hydropower Project Under CPEC Reaches Completion

The Sukhi Kinari hydropower project, which is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is nearly finished, with 86 percent of the construction completed.

Officials from the Sukhi Kinari hydropower project told media during a visit to the project site in Mansehra that the project, which is being developed on a BOOT (build, own, operate, and transfer) basis, will contribute 884 megawatts of energy to the national grid.

Officials further stated that because there were no big habitations in the project region, it was a run-of-the-river project with a low social effect. They also included ecological flow, minimal land acquisition, a trout fish hatchery, a D/S hydropower project, the dam site’s lake, a 48-kilometer transmission line, and tree plantation as further project elements.

They said that the initiative was not just a game-changing breakthrough for Pakistan’s economy, but also an inspirational paradigm for how such a transformation might be achieved.
