World Bank will fund two Hydropower projects in Swat

World Bank Senior Energy Specialist Muhammad Saqib announced to the KP Energy Development Organization that WB would be funding two hydroelectric power projects in Swat District this year.

The project includes the Maiden Hydropower Project (power capacity of 157MW & Gabral Kalam Hydropower project (power generation capacity of 88 Megawatts (MW)).

According to the details World Bank will fund around 450 million USD to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government to construct and operate the hydroelectric projects in Swat District. After the completion of the project in 2027, these projects will generate a revenue of 13 billion annually for the KP government.

It is pertinent to note here that WB is already supporting a project “floating solar energy project in collaboration with WAPDA. The project is the first of its kind initiative in Pakistan to meet the energy requirements.
