Lahore: The Chief Engineer at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Mr. Israr Saeed, has officially announced that this month inauguration of four significant construction projects in the city, are set to open to traffic within this month.
As per the provided information, Lahore’s four major construction initiatives are nearing completion, presenting a promising remedy for the city’s persistent smog issues. In the view of the Chief Engineer, the finalization of these four projects is poised to significantly mitigate the city’s air pollution levels. The LDA has issued strict directives to contractors, mandating the implementation of a two-hour water sprinkler system at all construction sites.
In addition, these projects include flyovers at Akbar Chowk and Shahdara, an underpass at Khalid Butt Chowk, and an underpass at Bedian Road. Giving specifics about the projects, he said that the flyover project at Akbar Chowk was expected to be finished in just six months, as opposed to the original 10-month estimate.
Together with the primary project, the Akbar Chowk flyover also involved remodeling Maulana Shaukat Ali Road and building ten U-turns—all of which were completed without removing a single tree. As per the contract that became effective on May 26, 2023, the project was originally scheduled for completion by March 25, 2024. The Shahdara flyover project, initially designed for a 10-month timeline, is now progressing toward finishing in just 7.5 months. The project’s contract mandates that it must be finished by January 4, 2024, starting construction on April 4, 2023.
As for the Bedian Road underpass project, its progress is notably rapid, with an anticipated completion time of 2.5 months, a significant reduction from the original 6-month projection. Construction began on August 26, 2023, and the project is contractually set to conclude by February 26, 2024.
The project to build the Khalid Butt Chowk Underpass is moving forward very well; it is scheduled to be completed in just two months, which is much shorter than the original six-month estimate. The project contract now specifies March 10, 2024 as the final completion date, with construction having officially started on September 14, 2023.
