Railways Intensifies Efforts to Reclaim Land Nationwide

Islamabad: Pakistan Railways is stepping up efforts to reclaim 13,972 acres of land valued at billions of PKR that has been illegally occupied.

A Land Ministry official has revealed that approximately 5,809 acres of land have been unlawfully occupied in Punjab, 1,181 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,948 in Sindh, and 1,034 in Balochistan. The illegally occupied land comprises various categories, including commercial, residential, and agricultural land, and is currently controlled by different individuals or departments.

The official statement confirms that 13,970 acres of land are under scrutiny, with 769 acres designated for commercial use, 3,309 for residential purposes, and 5,512 for agricultural use. Regrettably, 4,382 acres of land have been encroached upon by various entities. The department has resolved to accelerate its ongoing anti-encroachment campaign nationwide.

The ultimate objective is to reclaim the land from individuals, groups, and business entities that have used it for residential, commercial, or agricultural activities over the years. The notices are issued under the Possession Ordinance 1965, mandating encroachers to vacate railway land or structures within 14 days.
