CDA to Launch Light Rail Transit System in Islamabad-Realtorspk

Islamabad: CDA is planning to start Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Islamabad to deal with the issue of the ever-growing transportation shortage in the city.

The Capital Development Authority’s Planning Wing is in talks with Economic Affairs to get funds from donors like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to execute the project.

The planning wing has prepared initial documents, but the authorities have directed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study. According to the initial plans, the route for the LRT system will include:

  • Starts from N5 (G.T. Road) to Pakistan Monument via Srinagar Highway – 13.7 KM route
  • Starts from Rawat to Faisal Masjid through Faisal Avenue and Islamabad Expressway – 30.5 KM route
  • Starts from Pirwadhai to Faizabad through IJP Road – 10.4 KM route
  • T-Chowk (Rawat) to 26 No. Stop on G.T. Road – 27.5 KM route
