Gawadar: Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan (2019-2025) is in full swing with upscale developments in 13 areas to transform Gawadar into a modern metropolis.
The plan includes various activities to improve the infrastructure of the city. These include improving the central business district, renovating old towns, redesigning roads, creating parks, promoting sustainable growth, developing ecological corridors, identifying tourism hotspots, digitizing services, and building a skill-based economy.
A report by Gwadar Pro states that China Communications Construction Company documented a 75-page master plan in collaboration with Pakistan’s Minister of Planning, Development & Reform and Gwadar Development Authority. The goal is to establish better social and civic amenities, open new business opportunities, and provide modern healthcare and education facilities.
Several water supply projects in Gwadar have been completed. Two dams, Shadi Kaur and Sowd, have been completed and connected to the city through pipelines, a significant development. Additionally, a sewage water treatment plant has been established to prevent the coastline’s pollution and allow sewage water to be used for irrigation and agriculture in Gwadar.
Furthermore, the Gwadar Indus Hospital, also known as the Pak-China Friendship Hospital, has been completed for $30.5 million. It will provide top-notch medical facilities to the people of Gwadar district.
Moreover, the Gwadar Port has gone digital in the initial phase, as the state-of-the-art fiber optic cable network has been operationalized to modernize E-Customs at the Port. This development will simplify trans-shipment and containerized trade on commercialized modules.Implementing paperless customs procedures has been made possible by installing a fiber optic cable in Gwadar.
