Islamabad: The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government and Norwegian Hydro Company (NOR Hydro) forge a strategic partnership for renewable and sustainable energy projects.
The agreement was officially signed in Islamabad, marking a significant milestone for the energy sector of GB. NOR Hydro has committed to investing in Hydro and Solar energy projects as part of their agreement.
The project will begin with Skardu in Baltistan and is expected to contribute to the region’s energy needs. Under the agreement, the following areas will be focused:
- Upgradation of the existing powerhouses
- Building a 4.5-megawatt solar park for sustainable and eco-friendly power generation.
- Working on innovative hydroelectric projects.
The GB Chief Minister, Haji Gulbar Khan, and the Norwegian Ambassador, Per Albert Ilsaas, attended the signing ceremony. CM Khan applauded the contribution of Norway to the GB’s progress. The Norwegian Ambassador shared his view about the growth of GB and its private sector. The event was marked by mutual acknowledgment and gratitude.
