CDWP Gives Nod to Rs2bn Development Project

Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), chaired by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, has approved a development project worth PKR 2 billion.

During the convened meeting, the department proffered recommendations for three projects, valued at PKR 136.660 billion, to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further deliberation. Secretary Planning Awais Manzur Sumra, senior officials from the Planning Commission, federal ministries/divisions, and Chairman/ACS (Dev) from Provincial Governments were among the notable attendees of the meeting.

The following are updates on some projects recommended for assessment or further review by the ECNEC:

1. The energy sector project, “Expansion of 48MW Jagran Hydropower Station (Phase-II) in District Neelum, AJ&K (Revised),” has a total cost of Rs. 14,744 billion. This project is under the oversight of the Power Development Organization of AJK and is mainly funded by AFD, with a portion coming from PSDP.

2. The Physical Planning & Housing sector project “Construction of Litigants Facilitation Centre for Litigants of District Courts in Sector G-10/1 Islamabad” has been approved. The project is worth PKR 1,989.990 billion and aims to provide essential facilities for litigants and lawyers.

3. The Ministry of Communications has proposed a Transport & Communication sector project called the “2nd Carriageway Torkham Jalalabad Road Project, Afghanistan.” The project is valued at PKR 16,465.883 billion and recommended for further review by ECNEC. The National Highway Authority is the executing agency, and the project is funded through PSDP to aid Afghanistan’s road network reconstruction.

4. The “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Road Development Project” is worth PKR 105,450 billion and falls under the Transport & Communication sector.
