Rawalpindi: The Punjab Board of Revenue (PBR) has approved the Rs2.2 billion budget allocated to the Rawalpindi Ring Road land acquisition, marking significant progress in the project.

A senior official from the district administration disclosed that 5,300 kanals of land would be procured at the cost of Rs2.2 billion. The official explained that the provincial board of revenue, in compliance with the law, issued the requisite notification. Notices have been dispatched to landowners, instructing them to contact the district administration’s revenue department within 15 days.

The official highlighted that over 200 houses and structures would be impacted, with Rs500 million allocated for compensation. Construction on the Rawalpindi Ring Road had already begun on land acquired in 2021, and compensation for landowners would be based on the rates from that year.

For the 38.3-kilometer road, 8,992 kanals are required, of which 3,692 kanals have already been acquired, and the remaining 5,300 kanals will be formally acquired soon.

The imposition of Section 17 (4 and 6) of the Punjab Land Acquisition Act 1894 in September of the previous year paved the way for this initiative. The project’s overall cost stands at Rs33.7 billion, with Rs6.7 billion earmarked for land acquisition. The main carriageway spans 38.3km.

The road commences at National Highway (N-5) at Baanth, traverses through Chakbeli, Adiala, and Chakri roads, and concludes at Motorway M-2 at Thalian Interchange.

Under the guidance of Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the project’s machinery has been increased from 317 to 450. The project employs various machines, including three batching plants, 205 dumpers, 18 dozers, and 69 excavators. Officials are optimistic about the timely completion of the project.
