Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently presided over an important meeting to discuss a five-year strategic plan aimed at the nation’s economic development. This initiative emphasizes reducing inflation, combating poverty, and creating job opportunities.

Prime Minister Sharif urged immediate action on this plan, emphasizing collaboration with key economic stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of swiftly moving forward with projects that will bolster economic stability. A detailed timeline for these projects was requested, with a focus on accelerating advancements in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, IT, foreign investment, and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Moreover, the Prime Minister committed to cutting government spending and strictly managing public funds.

Over the next five years, efforts will be directed towards stabilizing the economy and setting the country on a growth trajectory. This includes enhancing tax collection through digitalization and improving agricultural productivity. Furthermore, there are plans to privatize loss-making state entities as a matter of urgency.

The meeting provided comprehensive insights into the economic strategy, covering various sectors including electricity, agriculture, exports, taxation, IT, SMEs, and privatization. Attendees included Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Jehanzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Dr Musadiq Malik, Minister of State Shiza Fatima Khawaja, Jehanzeb Khan, and other senior officials.

In a separate engagement, Prime Minister Sharif met with the Qatari Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, expressing gratitude for the congratulatory messages from Qatar’s leadership on his re-election. The Prime Minister emphasized the strong ties between Pakistan and Qatar, highlighting the potential for further cooperation in economy, trade, and investment. He pointed out the active role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council in attracting foreign investment in diverse sectors like agriculture, IT, and renewable energy. The Prime Minister also praised Qatar’s peace efforts in Gaza and extended an invitation to the Emir of Qatar for an official visit, underscoring the potential for deeper bilateral cooperation.
