Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif convened a meeting on Sunday regarding the Reko Diq project, where he met with a delegation from Barrick Gold Company, led by Chief Executive Officer Mark Bristow. During the discussion, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for robust security measures to safeguard the personnel and logistics involved in the Reko Diq project. Additionally, he underscored the importance of upgrading road infrastructure to facilitate smoother operations.

Among the attendees were Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Muhammad Jahanzeb, and other senior government officials. Together, they discussed updates on various infrastructure developments related to the project.

Key updates included the progress made by the Link Road Mining Company in constructing the link road from Reko Diq to National Highway 40. It was reported that the 103 km road from Nokundi to Mashkhel was 58 percent complete. Furthermore, plans were outlined for the transportation of 6,000 containers monthly from Reko Diq to the harbor, along with details about the project’s extensive concentrate pipeline.

Looking ahead, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif discussed plans to optimize mineral resources in Balochistan, with a particular focus on improving communication infrastructure and railway lines. He stressed the importance of timely development and construction of new road infrastructure to connect Reko Diq with Gwadar, a crucial port city in the region.

Moreover, directives were issued to strategize the feasibility of establishing a railway network from Reko Diq to Gwadar Port. Such a network would not only reduce the distance to Qasim Port but also benefit the mining industry in the Chagai district. The Prime Minister also emphasized the completion of the Environment and Social Impact Assessment for the Reko Diq project and requested a comprehensive briefing on Reko Diq Road and Rail Connectivity by the following week.
