Islamabad-The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) revealed a substantial surge in cement sales for the month of May, marking a remarkable growth of 19.41%.
According to the latest statistics shared by APCMA, the total cement sales reached an impressive 3.966 million tons, surpassing the figures of 3.321 million tons recorded during the same period last year.
The data further indicates that the local cement shipments within the country experienced a significant uptick, with an increase of 9.01%, reaching a total of 3.433 million tons in May 2023, compared to 3.150 million tons in May 2022. Meanwhile, the export dispatches witnessed a staggering surge of 210.13%, with the volume escalating from 171,915 tons in May 2022 to 533,155 tons in May 2023.
Analyzing the regional performance, cement mills located in the northern part of the country dispatched 2.880 million tons of cement, representing an 8.85% increase compared to the same period in 2022, when the figures stood at 2.646 million tons. On the other hand, cement mills in the southern region reported dispatches of 1.086 million tons, reflecting a substantial 60.77% growth compared to the 0.676 million tons dispatched in May 2022.
Delving deeper into the domestic market, the north-based cement mills witnessed a surge in dispatches, reaching 2.768 million tons in May 2023, up from 2.573 million tons in May 2022. Similarly, the south-based mills observed a notable 15.36% increase, dispatching 664,891 tons of cement to local markets during May 2023, compared to 576,385 tons in May 2022.
While the cement industry faced a decrease in total shipments during the first eleven months of the current financial year, recording 40.518 million tons, marking a 14.93% decline from the 47.627 million tons dispatched in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the recent surge in sales provides a glimmer of hope for the sector’s recovery.
The remarkable growth in cement sales for May 2023 showcases the industry’s resilience and points towards a positive trend that could potentially drive economic growth in the construction sector.
