CDA likely to introduce LRT System in Islamabad

Islamabad: CDA is working on the proposal to operate the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Islamabad in collaboration with China Railway.

The officials of the Capital Development Authority held a meeting with China Railway’s representatives where they were told about the available railway tracks from Golra to H-8. Moreover, during the meeting, representatives of both sides discussed adding LRT routes with existing metro bus routes in the city.

It is important to note here that the Light Rail Transit System is a popular public transport system. The officials of CDA have said that the LRT system in Islamabad will be operated independently once the Chinese Company lays the track. The development authority is currently focusing on two routes, One along H-8 to New Airport and the other along Islamabad Expressway. Furthermore, the existing railway track from Golra to H-8 can also be used for LRT as it is a cost-efficient infrastructure.
